Waldo is a small town with old Florida natural beauty. Waldo has a rich history, it was founded in the 1820’s, and established as a City in 1859. At one point, Waldo was home to the railroad that brought tourist to stay at one of the hotels, enjoy a baseball game, or paddleboat cruises on Lake Alto. Hunting and fishing were, and still are abundant. Several disastrous freezes destroyed the citrus industry. There was also a downtown fire and the great depression. If that was not enough, the railroad moved it’s operations out of Waldo. That put an end to Waldo’s tourism and trade.
